In respect for the tradition of yoga, Thrive Yoga Teacher Training includes training in the foundation of yoga practice and study in the modern application of yoga today, in life.

Techniques

  • Asana: Learn the physical and energetic qualities of yoga postures and how to apply them in teaching students of all different physical abilities and experiences.
  • Pranayama:  Learn and practice pranayama techniques for beginning-advanced students and how to weave pranayama through an asana class.
  • Meditation:  Introduction to several styles of meditation.

Thrive Yoga’s training is specially designed for you to graduate as a teacher.  Many, many training hours will be dedicated to all aspects of teaching yoga to yourself and to others.  You will gain experience teaching-not just poses but sequences and yoga tools to affect students.

Anatomy & Physiology

Training in the anatomy and physiology of the human body and movement.  Learn to recognize biomechanics, structure and fluid movement in yourself and your students.

  • The History of Yoga Teachers and Yoga Explosion-Learn the history of yoga and the philosophy behind the styles practiced in the world.
  • Yoga Sutra Study-Yoga philosophy as studied by the ancients and modern interpretation and application in life today.
  • Sanskrit Study-Learn basic Sanskrit, the original language of experience
  • Introduction to Ayurveda
  • Vibrational Flow.  Understand emotional movement and mind-body connection.

Faculty:

Susan Bowen

Creator and Director of Teacher Training, Susan is a RYT 500.  As a teacher in this training, Susan will inspire you to become your own teacher through your experience of yoga.  Susan teaches her students to be deep in technical knowledge but deeper in experiential understanding-that is what inspires students!   Susan has been teaching yoga for nine years and has taught more than 4,000 yoga classes in many styles and traditions to many levels and abilities of students.  As a yoga teacher,  Susan’s teaching  Susan’s classes are challenging and inspire students to explore the practice of unifying the breath, mind and body to a place of comfort from the common Western habit of distraction and discomfort. Susan has studied and practiced more than 12 yoga styles and encourages students to explore what works for them in yoga without concern for the “right” way to practice.  Susan sequences yoga classes to help students de-stress, de-tox and become more aware of their own vitality.  Susan cues her classes to inspire awareness of the whole being-physical, emotion, mental and spiritual.

April Puciata

April is an E-RYT 500 and a certified Ishta Yoga, Prenatal Yoga Teacher and a faculty member of the Thrive Teacher Training. As a teacher in the 200hr Training, April inspires humility and focuses the training on both the details of a well-rounded practice and the tricks of the trade that make a student feel nurtured and  light hearted,  Before moving to the area, April taught in NYC for almost 10 years. As a yoga teacher, her challenging vinyasa flow classes encourages students to pay attention to breath and experiment in their practice. While teaching creative and strong sequences, she also guides students though alignment and transitions, creating a playful and safe space. While her class requires focus and strength, it also allows for laughter and letting go.

 Kristin Leal

Kristin Leal

Kristin is a 500+ ERYT having completed numerous teacher trainings with Adrienne Burke (a senior Jivamukti teacher), Rodney Yee, and Betsey Downing Ph.D. In 1995, she graduated from the Swedish Institute for massage therapy and became a licensed massage therapist and Reiki practitioner.  Kristin created an advanced anatomy series to share her passion for the miracle of the human body and the liberating potential of movement. She is a co-author of the book “The Yoga Fan” which has been reviewed as being “an indispensable guide for the serious yoga student”. Kristin is currently working toward becoming a Doctor of Naturopathy and writing her second book, applying the ancient yoga philosophies to modern day relationships.As a teacher, Kristin’s classes are a challenging mix of strong anatomical alignment and powerful vinyasa flow all while maintaining a sense of humor and a connection to the Divine.

Dr. Zoe Marae

Dr. Marae has a PhD in biological science. For 15 years, she did medical research on complex multi-system disease leading to a joint appointment at Harvard Medical School and Children’s Hospital, Boston. Zoe Marae is a scientist who believes in “magic” (Vibrational magic, that is). She playfully refers to herself as a “mapmaker” specializing in formats (maps) of higher personal energy flow. These very practical maps lead to transformation inside (peace and flow) as well as outside (new life attractions). Her “zoeisms” combine vibrational physics with graphic humor.

pierre couvillionPierre Couvillion

Pierre is E-RYT 500 and has spent 15 years with some of the leading bodyworkers, yoga instructors and spiritual leaders in the country, amassing the equivalent of a graduate degree in body-mind-spirit healing. Pierre is trained in various bodywork styles from barefoot shiatsu to craniosacral therapy; movement styles  from t’ai chi ch’uan to ashtanga to viniyoga;  and most recently, Ayurveda.  Pierre is a Sanskrit Scholar and enjoys chanting and to  find that nothing changes the energy of a room faster than chanting (in any language).   You can learn more about Pierre at www.pierrecouvillion.com

 Jessica Apo

Jessica is a certified yoga and prenatal yoga teacher.  She teaches with strong alignment cueing through verbal and physical adjustments showing compassion for the individual.  Her keen intuitve sense and love of movement is recognized by her students through her creative sequences and fun focused classes.

Yoga is her passion and sharing it with others brings her joy!
